WR possibilities should include LSU's Brian Thomas Jr.

The best stat among many gaudy numbers: The average length of his 17 touchdown catches last year -- 34.8 yards.

My latest column for ⁦Buffalo News Sports⁩: The NHL's harsh reality hits hard for ' young players.

“It’s our fault as players … We weren't good enough for him and that's why he's not here anymore. It's the tough part of the game.” buffalonews.com/sports/column/…

The Avalanche never missed the playoffs during Bowen Byram’s time in Colorado.

This is all new to him. And after a challenging transition to the Sabres, he’s focused on “trying to prevent that from happening again.”

Brandon Beane holds 28th pick and said team doesn't have 28 first-round grades.

'I’ll take any call. You know me.'

The three most powerful/influential non-ownership employees in the building appear perfectly fine, content, excited about the trade earlier this month.

'From Day One of training camp, I don’t think we had our standard high enough.'

Don Granato's replacement will be someone with experience as an NHL head coach. Sabres GM Kevyn Adams explained the process that led to the change and what's next:

Quite a day in Sabreland: My final wrap on Granato's firing and a signature GMKA news conference in response. The playoff drought was simply too long for the coach to survive.

Said the GM: 'I need to be better. It's on me, I'm the leader, and I will be.'

Updated after Adams saying previous NHL HC experience for ...

1. Berube
2. Woodcroft
3. (A coach who gets fired after their team is bounced from playoffs)
4. Todd McLellan
5. Gerard Gallant
6. Bruce Boudreau (he'd probably pay Pegula for a final kick at the can)

Since this didn't specifically come up during the press conference, the Sabres' next coach will appoint someone to run the power play, a source told me.

Matt Ellis will have a different role with the organization next season.

'You all know the reasons Granato is gone, the poor first periods and the bad power play among them,' Harrington says.

Adams' task with --
1. Hire a coach who is a task master, skull-cracker who will make the core of players more accountable and won't be afraid to have guys watch from the fourth line or the press box.

2. Hire a 'players coach,' who has a consoling way.

Time for No. 1.

Don Granato would not say whether he’s been given any assurance that he’ll return as the Sabres’ coach next season.

“Let’s just stick with the game tonight.”

My coverage from Tampa of a 4-2 win to wrap the season:
