My son graduated from college yesterday. No mention of Palestine, Israel, Homs, Sudan, bird flu, famine, climate change, Ukraine, Jan. 6th. Just a celebration of accomplishment and promise for a group that had no high school celebration. Problems can be addressed later.

H5N1 bird flu may cross over into humans from cattle or hogs. Not too many mutations away. Should we A.) massive ramp of vaccine production and antiviral purchasing now. B.) wait till lots of people die and the economy shuts down. Currently heading to B. Insurance?

Painful to watch Universities like USC, and many others, bow to mob rule. Reduces, not enhances free speech. 2024 grads missed high school and now college graduation. Weak leadership should have consequences.

A quick update: Academics who went looking for genetic traces of H5N1 in store-bought milk from 10 US states found it in nearly 40% of samples. FDA's own investigation, which aims to be a 'large representative national sample,' has found evidence of H5N1 in 20% of milk products.

The testing of milk for the genomic remnants of virus that has been killed through pasteurization is showing that H5N1 may be so prevalent on dairy farms, that the U.S. may be close to achieving some measure of herd immunity among dairy cows, at least to this particular strain of…

OK...

1/ First, changing capital gains taxes won't solve our deficit problem, even a bit. FY 2021 we will have $2.3 trillion deficit.

The tax will *optimistically* raise $10 billion a year, or ~0.5% of our deficit, and about 0.2% of our whole budget.

Tax on unrealized gains. Our adversaries could not have come up with an idea on how to screw American innovation forever, take long term thinking and investing and turn it into short term panic. Destroying investment and markets. Fucking insane crazy. Unconstitutional too.

The interesting thing is USDA has been saying milk is safe based on absolutely no data. It appears to be safe, based on new data, but the previous statements were just complete bullshit speculation. When will H5N1 get into hogs? We wont know because no one lookin’.

It’s difficult to describe how insane a 25% tax on unrealized capital gains is.

Not a one-time 25% hit. It’s compounding, annually taking 25% of every dollar of potential increase before it can grow.

Not an exaggeration to say it could single-handedly crush the economy.

It is a pleasure to work with Vik Bajaj and his team at Foresite Labs and well as David Baker, Hetu Kamisetty, and their teams, Olivia Zetter from ARCH, and to back Marc Tessier Lavigne again. Excited to try to cure disease and fix the system.

Sad to see lack of leadership at some of our great universities. Mob rule and the heckler’s veto is not free speech. Universities need to establish control, enforce rules on harassment, and allow for a safe environment for the free exchange of uncomfortable perspectives.
