Today, 6th grade girls bid a tearful goodbye to classmates & teachers — as they marked their last day of school in Afghanistan due to the Talibans BAN on secondary education.

How long will the world allow this shameful mark in history to continue?

33 years ago tonight, 14 women went to bed thinking about their finals, future in STEM and the upcoming holiday season. They didn’t know that these dreams threatened a man’s sense of self worth and that they wouldn’t survive to see their goals and aspirations become a reality.

'You have to look beyond the face
to see the person true,
Deep down within my inner space
I am the same as you;
I've counted since that fire burnt
the many lessons I have learnt.
You have to talk to me and not
the skin that holds me in.'

RIP Benjamin: we saw the person true.

This is Teddy. He loves when it starts to get cold out. Because that means it's sweater weather. And he happens to be a giant walking sweater. 14/10

My mother is clearly a “disruptor”! Today a carer announced cheerfully that there would be exercise & music. “We don’t want any of that”, she replied firmly & proceeded to drown out the CD with her own song. Others joined in. When I arrived she smiled sweetly—butter wouldn’t melt

How well André Durand's picture (1969) shows Elizabeth Bowen: novelist, short story writer, an acute observer both of the natural world and of human emotions. She published ten novels including 'The Heat of the Day' (1949), a portrayal of life in London during WW2.

Alfred Bergström's 'Winter, Stockholm Waterfront,' from about 1880, captures the mystical light effects the short days of midwinter can create in a snowbound landscape, an acknowledgment how grand and sublime snow can be.

Oh dear! There’s an ‘entertainment’ going on in the care home. After the second number, everyone applauded. When they’d finished, my mother called out emphatically, ‘I hope that’s the end of it!’

This quote is beautiful and it doesn’t surprise me. Leonard Bernstein’s great humanity and warmth were obvious from the moment he appeared. Without a doubt the greatest and most powerful communicator I’ve ever seen live…

Samuel Palmer's 'The Rising of the Lark,' (c1839) was inspired by lines from L’Allegro (1645) by the poet John Milton. ‘To hear the lark begin his flight; And, singing, startle the dull night, From his watch-tower in the skies,Till the dappled dawn doth rise.'

Prima domenica di Avvento: nel nostro calendario c'è un facile facile!
Dettagli più veri del vero (mano, libro, stoffe) attorno ad una delicata annunciazione dipinta a monocromo per simulare un bassorilievo in pietra. Pittore fiammingo?
No!
