It’s really hard to answer “where are you from” when you’re traveling to your hometown, but you just moved to a new state, after living in a different city for 15 years.

Strongly recommend staying at the hotel your 9-year-old self considered “making it” when visiting your hometown. It’s worth it.

Hi, BookTok researcher here - TikTok reading cultures have helped usher in some of the best publishing sales years in recent memory. I know it doesn’t fit with social media moral panic narratives to attribute an increase in youth reading to social media, but here we are.

Seeing the man in front of me “doing shopping for his wife” actively plan out weaponize incompetence with the male cashier is igniting a particular kind of anger in me right now.

The ruling in the Texas TikTok case is disappointing. Banning TikTok doesn’t actually serve privacy because other platforms are collecting the same data, and because the same kind of data collected by TikTok can easily be purchased from data brokers. 1/X

Have a look at this really neat analysis of content moderation decisions by 8 social media platforms in a single day, as reported on the database.

Kudos to Daria Dergacheva, Vasilisa and Christian Katzenbach @[email protected], I only joined at the final stage, and already have lots of questions :)

If we had the political will to build true electrified high-speed rail and reform our customs process, you could get from NYC to Montreal in 3 hours and to Toronto in 4.5. It takes 11 hours and 12.5 hours to make these trips via rail today. We deserve better.

I remember reading something on here (linking to something) about whether we should actually be trying to make facial recognition 'more accurate' (or if we should let it remain inaccurate) but I cannot get the right keywords to find this through google. Does anyone remember this?

Heartbreaking. Spotify USA canceled Heavyweight Podcast - my favorite podcast of all time. I guess I can understand why Gimlet sold to them (the boatloads of money) but damn, at what cost?
