Gentlemen,

Just an observation I’ve seen over nearly 5 decades of life:

If young and single, get Quarto. Even if in NYC. You may think she likes that Beamer, but her heart will palpitate a lot more if she has to look at that slick of a presentation on the first date.

Day 10: North America. Busy today so here's a quick (code-wise, not render time-wise) animated map showing average daily maximum temperatures by year from 1980 to 2022.

I have a linestring with messy ends (like a tangled ball of yarn). How can I smooth the messy ends so that it traces a nice curve around the yarn-like segments? I tried the {smoothr} package but it doesn't seem to work.

Also open to QGIS or Python approaches.

Thanks to Hugh Graham @[email protected], here's a tree canopy height viz of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i two ways—canopy height only (left), over shaded relief (right). Which do you prefer?

Hi-res canopy height data from World Resources Inst and Meta.

As requested by Pablo Jarrín-V., here's a quick render of Lago Titicaca's bathymetry. It's more challenging to find lake bathymetry data compared to seas and oceans. Let me know if you have better data!

Day 14: Europe. What powers Europe? A small multiples map of Europe showing the location of power plants by primary fuel. I rather like how this turned out. Tried showing all of them on one map but it got messy.

🎉🎉 New Post 🎉🎉

Q: What do confidence intervals from well-powered studies look like? 🤔

A: They should not (usually) nestle against zero!

How far does the Arctic tern fly? This far. The longest migration of any animal on our planet. Incredible.

Huh, raymachine overheated mid-render for the first time ever, hitting 102 degrees before shutdown. Is my trusty D5 pump from 2013 finally starting to fail?

Going to invest some time in Python for things other than rayshading. ;) First things first, which IDE? Been using the terminal.

I've amassed a small collection of Python programming tips which I've been posting here on X.

Mostly Matplotlib stuff, but not limited to it.

I've created a dedicated page on Github to store them all in one convenient place now.

I hope this helps a bit.

Okay, I fixed the visualisation here so you can stop yelling at me. Here are roads and buildings of the _island_ of Ireland with insets of the more populated cities. I even corrected the name of one city.

See, I'm nothing if not a people pleaser.
