The 'national' in National Health Service is part of what makes it so unique. But is it also part of the problem?

If you missed our major new paper yesterday (how?), here's Rosie Beacon giving the top lines on Times Radio
'You need to create healthy people rather than just responding to sickness'
Rosie Beacon making the case for devolving the NHS budget to local areas and letting them decide how to spend it... which might mean eg fixing black mould in social housing 👏
'Close enough to care'...
'sets out bold & necessary proposals for putting the health of people & place at the heart of an outcomes focused, locally led NHS'
Kate Ardern, co-chair of our 'Reimagining Health' programme & public health guru, on our new report 👇
The NHS is overly centralised, impeding its ability to design local services for local people
As Nigel Edwards says: 'different localities need decision makers that are close enough to understand them'
'Closer enough to care' sets out how to achieve this
Very exciting new report today as covered in The Times and The Sunday Times
If we were to design a health system today, a standardised model for a highly unstandardised population would barely seem logical, let alone efficient.
It should be a matter for regional governments, not NHS England.
Loved to chatting to Nick Ferrari just now
Current guest arguing devolution risks inequality - have they looked at current levels of health inequality?
The national model is not delivering equal access or equal outcomes. This is a mad argument
Our director Charlotte Pickles is live now discussing our new report 'Close enough to care' with Nick Ferrari on LBC to lead the call-in.
Listen now or find on catch up!
