It might not be picnic weather today (it's still sweater weather) but when the sun shines, there's no better place to spend a long lunch than the NB lawns. If you want your lawn to look this good, you just need to mow it, scarify it, reseed it, and feed it regularly for 500 years

Also--as weird as this may sound, I think having a SCOTUS-only practice would be boring, even if it was possible. I love going into different state and federal appellate courts and seeing their unique local rules, to say nothing of the different substantive areas of caselaw.

I can't even see why any lawyer would *want* to be SCOTUS-exclusive as an appellate lawyer, even if presented with such an unusual opportunity. The vast majority of caselaw is developed in the lower courts.

I fully agree with the below. A huge part of my appellate practice doesn't even involve SCOTUS briefs, and there is no reason why any appellate lawyer should strive to be SCOTUS-exclusive.

+1. And if you want to be an appellate attorney but don't care about having a SCOTUS practice specifically, it is probably the easier path NOT to go to BigLaw. (I haven't worked a day in BigLaw, but my practice is 100% appellate except a few exceptions. Even a few SCOTUS briefs!)

Stuff like this is why I end up having to handle what amount to interviews from out of state attorneys who clearly don't believe I wrote something I wrote.

For the record, it's pretty insulting.

Joe Blow Kristen (KVP) LaFreniere And I'm pretty sure that the point of the criticism is that being a specialist isn't like being a Mason; all your shibboleths are out in public for anyone to see and adopt, so the entire premise of his claim is wrong.

Best compliment I ever got was at an SBOT CLE when a prominent oppo counsel I finally met in person gave (solo) me a hug and said 'YOU'RE Kirk from El Paso? That PFR you filed scared the SHIT out of me!'

Let Biglaw think they own all the talent; it makes us more effective.

Washington University calls weekend protests a ‘sad, dark day’ for campus. Wash U acted with moral clarity and the police did terrific. Slap down anti-semitism. That simple. firstalert4.com/2024/04/30/was…

If you ever wondered what you would’ve done in the Weimar/early Nazi days when Jews were being squeezed out of universities and polite society, with increasing antisemitic graffiti and vandalism, it’s what you’re doing now.

If you aspire to be an appellate attorney, don't let anyone tell you that you have to be in biglaw. I've never been in biglaw, and four-and-a-half years in have managed to develop a consistent SCOTUS-level practice.

The metadata may indicate where the brief's *template* came from, but it is a completely unreliable indicator of who wrote the brief, as I can attest from recent experience. nationalreview.com/bench-memos/ah…
