Give punctum ๐Ÿ‰ books some LOVE and spare change! Since 2012, we've published over 500 #OpenAccess titles with 30-ish new titles each year. Everything we make, we give away, & thanks to libraries & individuals like you, it's actually sustainable. Who else will publish the WEIRD?!?

This seems great unless you know that some of these same publishers are suing public libraries like the Internet Archive & have been predatory in their business practices & copyright lawsuits since forever. Maybe the ALA could think about that, PLEASE? Reading this is nauseating.

These are the same publishers who claim to be sooooo concerned over authors rights in the context of the Nelson memoโ€ฆ.oy. The Bookseller - News - Wiley set to earn $44m from AI rights deals, confirms โ€œno opt-out" for authors

Srsly, Princeton University Press @princetonupress.bsky.s: you have the history, the person power & the money. Instead of "celebrating" the bad judicial decision against the Internet Archive, why don't you figure out how to be a leader in the open knowledge landscape? But maybe you like your patrician status. ๐Ÿคก

Laura Gibbs (@onlinecrslady) 's Twitter Profile Photo

the decision (60 pages) re: @InternetArchive is abysmal: complete surrender of public good to profiteering! no doubt they would get rid of libraries and the used book market too if they could... all so that publishers can make more money. read it and weep: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscoโ€ฆ

Disgraceful While public libraries are assaulted financially by governments keen on spending cuts, the assault on their activities from publishers via copyright lawfare continues apace This is a horrendous perversion of what copyright should be, used for greedy ends

Eileen ๐Ÿ‰ A. Fradenburg Joy (@eileenajoy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I'm trying to be chill today but the judicial opinion against the Internet Archive & the fact that for-profit & uni presses wield copyright as a weapon to smash public libraries & academics are just completely CLUELESS even though it's their fucking copyrights. Fuck the Academy.

Thatโ€™s too bad because it was hard enough to read the first time around. Scholarly Kitchen is a platform for neoliberal winner takes all capitalism. The ties that bind for-profit publishing to public knowledge production is beyond tragic & apparently, made of unbreakable iron. ๐Ÿค‘
