March 2024 Temperature Update

Nominally the warmest March since direct measurements began, though by a tiny margin (essentially ties March 2016).

El Niño declines, expected to end in coming months.

Very likely 2024 becomes the 1st or 2nd warmest year.

Theres an important new study from many of the leading researchers on paleoclimate and climate sensitivity.

They provide a new, more robust estimate of climate sensitivity from the last glacial maximum, suggesting a sensitivity of 2.9C (95%: 2.1 to 4.1C) science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Climate warming is life and death to . In the 1980s FL Keys peak summer SST’s were a safe 84. But the past few years the peak is ~87+, over the bleaching threshold, causing back to back events w/ no recovery time. Then add in an extreme event like last summer? Light’s out!

Cloud seeding may sometimes make small changes around the margins (though even that gets debated), but a lot of other factors had to align to get the severe flooding in Dubai.

86 years

In April 1938, Guy Callendar published his seminal paper showing that Earth’s land areas had warmed over the previous 50 years.

He also suggested that man-made CO₂ emissions had caused around half of the observed warming.

Looking at the record warm month of March 2024:

🟥 warmer than average
🟦 colder than average

The average March global air temperature was +1.39°C above 1951-1980 climate baseline, as shown on the map (this is +1.66°C above 1880-1920 baseline). See code: data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/source…

March temps across the US were 3.6°F above average, ranking 17th warmest in the 130-year record.

The precipitation total was 2.85', ranking in the wettest third of record.

And a new billion-dollar disaster was confirmed.

Your characterisation of debate is wrong & deeply biased

Vast majority of scientists & academics acknowledge we are in the Anthropocene

They disagree that it started in 1952 - as humanity's impact on Earth is more complex

You have fallen for the AWG sour grapes!

Sometimes, people try to argue that the global warming signal is an artifact of the bias adjustments & other quality control processes applied to weather station data.

That is easily shown to be untrue. The net effect of the adjustments on the global land average is very small.

Nearly 300,000 lives could be saved over the next decade if every state had the same gun death rate as the eight states that have passed the strongest gun laws.

While the total solar eclipse is long gone, there are still plenty of reasons to be excited about looking skyward this year. Here are 10 meteor showers to watch in 2024.
