THE LAMIA - one of Hackett's finest moments on a Genesis record when that solo comes in
COLONY OF SLIPPERMEN - that this was recorded before sequencers blows me away
RIDING THE SCREE - how do you even begin to write something like this, let alone play it?

6. A Trick Of The Tail (1976)

DANCE ON A VOLCANO - some thought Genesis were finished when Gabriel left... imagine being THAT wrong
RIPPLES - simply one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard
LOS ENDOS - well worth getting a noise complaint from your neighbours... THE BASS

7. Wind & Wuthering (1976)

ELEVENTH EARL OF MAR - boy did they know how to open an album... Hackett at 3:23-3:45 🔥
ONE FOR THE VINE - relentlessly melodic, I could listen to the middle section all day
IN THAT QUIET EARTH - physically impossible not to bang your head along

8. AND THEN THERE WERE THREE (1978)

DOWN AND OUT - I keep choosing openers but God, the drums on this one
BURNING ROPE - Phil Collins dismissed this song in later years, which proves everyone can talk shit sometimes
THE LADY LIES - quintessential Genesis, the live ending is 🔥

9. DUKE (1980)

BEHIND THE LINES - look up barmstorming in the dictionary, you'll find this song intro
CUL-DE-SAC - repping for Cul-De-Sac because it never gets the props it deserves
DUKE'S TRAVELS - must have listened to this thousands of times and I never ever tire of it

10. ABACAB (1981)

ME AND SARAH JANE - nothing to do with Elisabeth Sladen, a musical journey, the section at 3:30 is gorgeous
DODO/LURKER - prog Genesis are alive and well, absolutely no idea what he's singing about but it sounds fucking amazing
WHODUNNIT? - it's a laugh, innit

11. GENESIS (1983)

SECOND HOME BY THE SEA - that drum fill will never ever leave my head and I'm quite happy about that
SILVER RAINBOW - no idea what it's about but I love the production
IT'S GONNA GET BETTER - long version is my fave, love that backwards running intro

12. Invisible Touch (1986)

An album mostly made up of hit singles, so let's just praise DOMINO for being the most entertaining, radio-friendly two-part song about nuclear apocalypse - not to mention a fantastic live song - and THE BRAZILIAN for, well, being The Brazilian.

13. We Can't Dance (1991)

DRIVING THE LAST SPIKE - strong, compelling storytelling pays off in spades (pun intended) for this latter-day prog-pop classic

DREAMING WHILE YOU SLEEP - yet more compelling, emotive storytelling, for me this album was a high point for Genesis lyrics

FADING LIGHTS - one of my favourite Genesis songs (great lyrics again), the instrumental section encapsulates everything I love about them ♥️

It's also my funeral song, mainly cos I love the idea of everyone being forced to listen to Genesis for 10 minutes. My final revenge.

14. Calling All Stations (1997)

CALLING ALL STATIONS - great showcase for Ray Wilson's vocals
THE DIVIDING LINE - brilliant live song with the extended intro/guitar duel

Credit to them for trying to start fresh, but the rest of the album tracks aren't really for me.
