This is why scientists need the humanities. A scientist can apparently ‘prove’ statistically that Napoleon is the greatest general ever. A humanities scholar can explain how his supposed greatness was not always a virtue, and how it ultimately was a cause of his total defeat.

The community note is of interest here. It cites a good source but: 1) Different forces have different ROE. International Law is, in theory, the base denominator. 2) ignores the issue as to whether the individual targeted is “hors de combat” (arguably he is).
