The news of Israel's AI 'Lavender' system for targeting in Gaza raises many deeply troubling issues--for Gaza and beyond. If the reporting is correct, there are major implications for IDF targeting and IHL compliance.

Hospitals and medical facilities are protected under int’l law. Legal expert Oona Hathaway told us the attack could potentially be a war crime but said “there are a number of questions that are going to be asked,” including whether the IDF had a legitimate military objective.
