Potentially large ramifications for health care, where noncompetes have become common in physician groups acquired by hospitals & private equity firms.

Minimum nursing home staffing rule will soak up lots of attention today but this new Medicaid rule 'requiring providers to allocate at least 80% of home- and community-based payments to direct care worker pay' is HUGE too.

Lots of gratitude to the researchers who wrote about — and coordinated letters on — this issue. I'm sure to be missing folks, but: Adam Sacarny Josh Gottlieb (also @GottliebEcon.you.know.where) Lauren H. Nicholas Rachel Werner Sujith Ramachandran Anirban Basu

That said, this is clearly the start of a conversation, not the end of one.

Congratulations to CMSGov and the Administration on today's announcement delaying implementation of this change!

For the reasons we give in the quoted link, CMS can maintain data security while improving research access policies.

It's great to see CMS responding to feedback.

How did survey-based coverage rates change during the COVID-19 pandemic, and how did these changes compare with growth in administrative Medicaid enrollment during this period?

It's hard to know yet by how much the unwinding of pandemic protections in Medicaid will increase the number of people uninsured.

Some who have been dropped and are now uninsured may still end up getting covered back in Medicaid, in the ACA marketplace, or through an employer.

For those watching today's MACPAC meeting, this is the paper on how dual-eligibles benefitted from the continuous coverage provision that was just cited

Key Findings:

1. Medicaid loss among duals was slightly rising prior to pandemic

2. Medicaid loss was higher among Blacks & Latinos pre-pandemic

3. The PHE/MOE (paused Medicaid re-determinations) was associated with substantial decline in loss (and erased disparities!)

If you're trying to answer the question 'what will unwinding do to the official uninsured rate,' you also have to think about 'how well did people understand the continuity of their Medicaid coverage?'

The widening Medicaid undercount suggests at least some confusion.

Jealous to not be able to see this!

Also marveling at Joe's lowkey flex of using the same Powerpoint slide template for 20+ years running.
