My god this looks too pleasant. Quick let’s make sure we never build it again!

IMHO replacing the Steel Bridge is more critical than IBR (interstate bridge ‘replacement’)or expanding the Rose Quarter. Especially after what we saw last week…

We also need to do something about the steel bridge so the new interstate bridge to Vancouver has more than just a single MAX yellow train every 15 mins…

Portland's MAX lines slow to a crawl once they reach the city center, creating system-wide slowdowns. Adding downtown tunnels might be the only way to fix that in the long term.

My legit take on is to post on social media your fav moment in Portland in the last year.

If everyone blasted on their feeds with how much we love this place, I can’t imagine the algorithms wouldn’t notice:)

My backup take: ride a bus🚌, MAX🚊, or bike🚲 City Cast Portland

It’s very telling that not a single city leader responded to an incident that narrowly avoided catastrophe for our region and still impacted 1,000s of Portlanders relying on transit yesterday.

A Union Pacific freight train derailed this morning at the east end of the Steel Bridge. While impacts appear to be minimal, the event called attention to the bridge's weaknesses as a transit hub—and to the risks of oil-by-rail transport in Portland.

The only upside to this may just be the renewed concern to look to replace the Steel Bridge. It’s a quiet disaster waiting to happen and is a super critical, yet aging/unreliable backbone to so much of the PDX region.
