Did you know Hubble helped build NASA Webb Telescope’s “to-do” list? ☑️ One of Webb’s upcoming projects is called COSMOS-Webb, which will observe a patch of sky containing half a million galaxies – building on a huge survey that Hubble started in 2002. Learn more: go.nasa.gov/33swXPW
Our 2022 UCSC Grad Slam Champion is Amanda Quirk, Astronomy and Astrophysics, who received $3,000 and will represent UC Santa Cruz at the UC-wide Grad Slam Finals with their presentation "The Tale of Two Galaxies: Studying How Galaxies Change Over Time" 🎉🏆
Congratulations to Ryan Hausen, newly minted UC Santa Cruz Comp Sci PhD from the Computational Astrophysics Research Group! Dr. Hausen is joining Johns Hopkins Physics & Astronomy as a Data Scientist / Scientific Software Developer later this summer. Congrats again Dr. Hausen!
Want an interactive view of the amazing NASA Webb Telescope deep field image of SMAC-0723, released today by President Donald J. Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and NASA? Here is an interactive, zoomable viewer of the first-ever #jwst image: slate.ucsc.edu/~brant/jwst/SM…

New paper tonight from UC Santa Cruz CompAstro led by Bruno Villasenor, using >1000 high-resolution cosmological sims run on DOE Office of Science OLCF to constrain warm dark matter w/ the Lyman-alpha forest. Collab w/ the amazing Dr Evan Schneider + P. Madau. arxiv.org/abs/2209.14220
✨Lamat 2023 applications are OPEN✨ Lamat is an 8-week REU for STEM students (comm. college + 4-year) interested in computational astrophysics and astronomical data research. The program will be in person at UC Santa Cruz ☄️To apply and for more info, visit lamat.science.ucsc.edu/students/☄️
Paper day! arxiv.org/abs/2211.07865 Our COSMOS-Web Overview paper is out! This paper is the result of a lot of hard work by @astrocaits and I along with all of COSMOS Survey, describing the COSMOS-Web NASA Webb Telescope #JWST survey.
Our new paper from the JADES collab, co-led w/ Sandro Tacchella, & w/ partner paper by Emma Curtis Lake & Stefano Carniani. The NASA Webb Telescope GTO teams have found #EarlyGalaxies in the first 400 Myr of time, & for the first time confirmed them spectroscopically arxiv.org/abs/2212.04480
New results from JADES tonight led by Sandro Tacchella and Andy Bunker: photometric and spectroscopic properties of GN-z11, A remarkable z=10.6 galaxy with a stunning array of spectral lines! arxiv.org/abs/2302.07234 arxiv.org/abs/2302.07256
its paper day! 🎉 i'm happy to share my first paper written as part of my graduate program Texas Astronomy in collaboration with @astrocaits and (many) others. brief thread below! 👇
This has been a huge effort from COSMOS Survey 's Max Franco to process this enormous amount of NIRCam data
So excited to announce that our COSMOS Survey Redshift Wrangler Citizen Science Project (Redshift Wrangler ) has launched today! This effort has been 3 years in the making. We can't wait to see what discoveries everyone makes!
