poops.nz NZ wastewater COVID-19 surveillance. Variant analysis for last couple of weeks added. Almost all JN.1' (lineages with a JN.1 spike protein). While variation in levels over last 2 months, trend over last month is down / flat but levels higher than Sept/Oct.

Hey this is us... Jemma Geoghegan and I get to lead some really great early career researchers to dive deep into avian influenza in NZ and help us prepare for a highly pathogenic strain before it gets here.

What, I'm speaking as well as organsing this!? This should be a really interesting/fun couple of days with a huge breadth of pathogen genomics topics covered. Prizes and travel awards for ECRs too, so please put an abstract in or come along!

Some fun science today, sequencing a clinical legionella sample directly (no culturing step). Here is the gridion selectively spitting out host reads so we get more bacteria in our data

Week to 2nd June is the second week of national wastewater decline, but check you local catchment/region for how far through the wave at poops.nz Multiweek trend still not at peak, but then I was saying this week or next for that, not last week.

poops.nz Updated dashboard -New Zealand wastewater COVID-19 surveillance. Week ending 30 June. Nationally, levels decreased again. Peak seems behind us now, for now. But at higher than low baseline a year ago. No variant update but graph added anyway- KP.3 at 50%.

Enormous show of opposition to the Treaty Principles Bill, with 150 organisations signing on to this open letter opposing it. Over 40 orgs signing a letter is significant in my experience. This is damning: scoop.co.nz/stories/PO2407….
