Now seems hard to deny that the main risk for universities is the actions of those at the very top. Not just in the USA btw. So how do we address this and reclaim our universities?

If you're using surrogate gradient descent to train spiking neural networks, this is potentially big news. This paper should be going to the top of your reading list. Looking forward to reading it.

Check out 'DenRAM', the first implementation of delay-based dendritic architecture using +CMOS technology, which we show is a natural match for efficient temporal signal processing Nature Communications.

Postdocs are not students. Don't call them students.

And before accepting a postdoc job with someone who says this, maybe ask existing and former members of that lab how postdocs are treated. Actually you should always do this anyway.

So oral exam at end of PhD. Good idea or just a tradition that doesn't make any sense any more? What are the good things about them? If we didn't do them, how else could we get those good things?

Have a PhD (or nearly)?
Want to come to Cambridge, UK to work on:
(1) control for neural circuits?
(2) spike-based computation?
(3) brain-machine interfaces?
(4) other :) ?
We have space, projects, ideas and can help with a proposal (deadline May 15):

Like Tim, I'm always happy to support postdoc fellow applications. Let me know if you're interested in applying on the sort of stuff I work on (or Tim if his topics fit better).

Feels like I've been working on this for a very long time but, the new version of our GeNN spiking neural network simulator (5.0.0) is out (genn-team.github.io). New code generator, new manual, faster compilation time and lots of other new features GeNN Team 🥳

Without planning, this is what I did at the start of my neuro career when building Brian simulator. It worked well for me, and I can see that logic of it for tools development. Does it make sense for fundamental research? I think it would be career effective but good for science?
