Princeton neuro prof. But Twitter is an absurd platform for professional communication so I strive to use it most unprofessionally.

New preprint! Sina Tafazoli shows the brain builds complex tasks by compositionally combining simpler sub-task representations. By dynamically reusing neural subspaces for sensory inputs and motor actions, the brain can flexibly perform multiple tasks. 🧵 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Happy to share the preprint for my main grad school project, with Twitterless Thomas Akam, Ilana Witten, and Nathaniel Daw! Within, we formalize a popular hypothesis about replay function (that it helps build cognitive maps) using RL, and... 1/2

Why do some animals learn faster than others? In a Ilana Witten , Nathaniel Daw , Jonathan Pillow and International Brain Laboratory collab, Yoel Sanchez Araujo and I explored whether pre-existing dopamine dynamics might be to blame.

My lab is looking for a new lab manager/research assistant! research-princeton.icims.com/jobs/18605/res…
We are especially interested in computationally-oriented people who want to understand learning behavior & are thinking of grad school in the future (though ideally this is a two year job). /1

New paper in Cell w/ Caroline I Jahn on how the brain learns to control attention in a changing environment! Attention is learned incrementally from reward, and it maps stimuli into a generalized value space to guide decisions in many settings. 🧵cell.com/cell/fulltext/…

Human behavior is hierarchically structured. But what determines *which* hierarchies people use? In a preprint, we run an experiment where people create programs that correspond to hierarchies, finding that people prefer structures with more reuse.

The king of England does not have cancer. The last king of England fell in battle against the enemies of his people in 1066. There has been no king of England since then, only the unbearable weight of the Norman yoke

New preprint with Nathaniel Daw and Daphna Shohamy!

We often have to make choices we've never made before. One way to do so is by knitting together relevant memories to form new relationships.

When do people access their memories to construct preferences?
