In 1994, Republicans amended Joe Biden’s crime bill to let prosecutors bring evidence from past uncharged sexual assaults. “It absolutely violates every basic tenet of our system,” Biden said.

Now, Democrats want to make the same change in New York law.

Super proud of my NYU Law colleagues, including the great Liam Murphy, quoted here, who does so much visible and invisible in the law school and beyond:

A 🧵on the Court’s 7-2 decision in CFPB v. Community Financial Services. The Court reversed the Fifth Circuit’s erroneous finding that the CFPB’s funding structure was an “abomination” of which the “Framers warned.”

I think this is a legitimately big story that will not get sufficient attention. People like hearing about silly social science or humanities research, because it confirms their prejudices, but they’re not prepared to accept how much fraud there is in science proper.

A great oped in today’s The Harvard Crimson reminds us that university encampments and occupations are nothing new. What *is* new is the way universities have responded: with historically anomalous amounts of violence and punishment.

In related news, 'academic day' at the ABA spring admin law conference was, IMHO, a big success. I'd encourage folks to attend next year!

'New Yorkers for Local Businesses' is a corporate lobbying group trying to kill a far-reaching wage theft enforcement bill.

It is backed almost exclusively by McDonald's franchisees -- including some that have faced wage theft suits and paid settlements.

I have nothing to say about the underlying article. But I will never miss an occasion to talk about how great Martti’s books are. Mind-expanding, paradigm-shifting, intellectually engaging and generous…. Truly a model.

University-wide commencement is a goofy, expensive thing. Columbia University has cancelled it for a bad reason. But it might be better for everyone to focus more on school-specific ceremonies anyway and use the saved $$ on something else — like endowing new lines….
