Real cancel culture is getting locked up for a petty drug case, being too poor to get lawyer, having your public defender convince you to agree to a felony. Then society tell you where you can live, whether or not you can vote & what jobs you can hold for the rest of your life.

Story of a 66-year-old researcher, an immigrant, who rarely got grants, never got her own lab, never earned more than $60K. For four decades, she kept working on mRNAโ€”a path considered foolish. Her work is the basis for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. nytimes.com/2021/04/08/heaโ€ฆ

I miss giving a subway swipe. It costs nothing so thereโ€™s no pressure on the recipient to be grateful. And you really didnโ€™t do anything so you canโ€™t get too self-satisfied. No awkwardness. No weirdness. Just swipe them in and both be on your way.

It's amazing that the Canadian "freedom" people don't get that civil disobedience -- protesting by blocking streets or defying official orders -- means YOU EXPECT TO GET ARRESTED. That's what civil disobedience is! White privilege is a powerful drug, man

I still can't quite believe it. The article I've been working on for the past 5 years about the (mis)use of information from the criminal-legal system in the immigration system is getting published in California Law Review! Draft on SSRN: ssrn.com/abstract=43815โ€ฆ. Feedback welcome!

The killing of Jordan Neely is the fault of NYC policy as much as the chokehold vigilante. No effort to train or educate public on how to act/be supportive to those in crisis. No scaled mental health or social service outreach. Untold billions uselessly spent on cops and jails.

A reminder that the DA originally charged 2 Black teenagers with the 1st degree murder of Fanta Bility (carrying a sentence of life in prison or the death penalty) even though he knew these cops were the ones who shot & killed her. The cops were sentenced to probation on Friday.
