It was startling how much my thoughts would spin in anxiety during breast cancer. Read more tips like this at the end of every chapter in 'A Breast Cancer Journey: Living it One Step at a Time.' jenniferadouglas.com

Are you aware that breast density can impact the sensitivity of mammograms? If you have dense breast tissue, it's critical to ask about supplemental screenings.

I’m still hearing 2 things that are really disturbing me:

(1) Non-patients speaking for patients at industry conferences
(2) Patients/advocates/caregivers not being compensated for time & expertise when consulting on drug development

Neither are acceptable as good practice

When I was dealing with radiation fatigue, I realized that it was challenging to communicate my energy level. Having an image to draw on helped make the invisible, visible.

My summer 2022 lumpectomy felt different that the one I had in 2019. I was much more prepared for the procedure, but not ready for the post-surgical anxiety over the pathology.

When my summer 2022 biopsy came back as inconclusive, the next step for my care was another lumpectomy. Only full pathology would give the doctors the complete picture.

I walked out of my last day of radiation treatment feeling ready to be recovered. I quickly learned that recovery is a process that takes time. My body needed time to recover from all that I'd been through. jenniferadouglas.com/books

I thought I knew what to expect after a breast biopsy. The results would either be cancer or benign. In 2022, I wasn't prepared for an inconclusive pathology report.

How do we find a way to live in the in-between parts of cancer survivorship? It's definitely easier said than done. Some days, it is simple, and other days drag on in ambiguity.

Receiving the first copies of my book was such a dream come true moment. In a good way. Unlike the actual process of going through breast cancer. Which was not at all fun. jenniferadouglas.com/books

In 2022, I wasn't expecting to come out of the mammogram with a referral for another biopsy. It had been 3 years since my last one and I was hoping for more of a reprive.

Me: I’m really looking forward to my yummy lunch leftovers. Also me: why aren’t they in the fridge? Oh no, did I leave them in the trunk overnight? Hungry and disappointed me: How about a bagel instead?

Coping with our emotions can be difficult. Something that helps me is reading books on feelings. These 4 books have equipped me to communicate and cope with them.

When I was dealing with the challenges of my diagnosis and treatment, I wanted to learn from someone who'd been through it before me. jenniferadouglas.com/books.

Making sure to prioritize quality time when we can.(because we aren’t on vacation together right now…) Long walks, fire pit relaxation, and scenic drives. It’s a season of stress and lots of business travel 🧳. Time together is 🔑

Important point by Erika Hamilton, MD. A common questions from pts is: what should I take (or eat) to reduce my risk of recurrence? The answer to this question should not come from retrospective studies, often burdened by confounding bias, but should derive from RCTs.
