I know it's annoying when people say this, but I genuinely can't stand zadie smith's books & thought it was a poor reflection on me and now I feel vindicated

The longest occupation of a federal building was by Disabled people in 1977. It forced the Carter administration to put regulations around #504, which cleared the path for the . Newsrooms in general have 0 concept of disability history so opinions are formed on feelings

In his letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr., told us the white moderate “is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice” and said this is someone who “prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice.”

are there any library/GLAM efforts to create a network of support & resources for students who have faced academic consequences for protesting & want to go into the library/cultural heritage field?

makes me damn proud that I spent the entirety of my childhood replaying my raffi tape while scream-singing baby beluga and that he taught me to be a person who cares🫡

philosophy chair getting arrested, an econ prof getting her head smashed against concrete, a street medic being held down and tased, snipers setting up vantage points to shoot at ohio state students -all because of nationwide protests against a genocide- you SHOULD be radicalized

see also: I ordered that as a physical book because it was $53 as opposed to the single user ebook for $800, not because I hate you and want you to suffer

how do I make it clear to faculty that some books do not have ebook versions/ebooks available via our academic purchasing license and I literally cannot order them an ebook version of their requests if they don't exist, not because I hate them and want them to suffer

If you’re involved in any of these anti-genocide actions at universities, please make sure to save your emails, flyers and other papers so that in 50 years your university can proudly display them as part of their special collections

there are people who will pick through every word of what some random students at a pro-palestine protest are saying looking for something offensive, meanwhile your average mainstream israeli media voice is saying shit like this on TV without challenge

my favorite genre of LIS article that keeps getting published is 'many people have said this exact same thing already, and I will contribute nothing new to the conversation, nor will I do anything about it' by white people

It hurts my heart how many US universities tell students to 'prove to us that you will be an ethical, moral hero who will stand for what's right above and beyond all others' in their admissions essays just to get in, then will punish them when they do just that on campus.

7 years ago, I wrote a small piece about a man who was falsely accused of a crime.

A few days later, I got an anonymous telling me to look up the woman they called “the evilest white woman on earth.”

What happened next is the absolute wildest story you’ll ever hear

A thread

Libraries should stay libraries and if you want them to be community recreation centers you should just say that you want that instead because those used to exist, too, and were shuttered for the same reason conservatives and neoliberals are trying to defund libraries now.

sometimes I try to make up my own nonsensical spotify daylist algorithm for myself so today I thought - rainy day dreamy melancholy world folk sounds - but then realized that meant I really just wanted to listen to paul simon

The best thing you can do to celebrate National Library Week is to go to a board meeting and talk about how much you use and care about your library.

'I'm too scared to talk publicly.'

That's fine. You can write a letter. Do it right now and email it to the board.

every year no matter where I work, whenever admin sends out an email for national library worker's day I naively open it thinking, maybe they'll do something nice this year like give us a lil bonus or maybe just free food! and every year I am wrong
