When I was 15, I covered my first state championship game. DRose & Simeon beat O’Fallon in Peoria.

After the game Steve Tucker drove me home to Chicago. He spent the entire drive helping me write about the game, still the best piece I’ve written.

A true legend. Rest in Peace 🙏🏼

Steve Tucker gave me my first job in this business. I still remember my interview. He opened the door to the Chicago Sun-Times office to me and he was in his socks. There are so many great Tucker stories. I owe him so much. The man loved high school sports. May he rest in peace.

What a legend. He screamed. He was wildly unpredictable. But he cared. And the moment he believed in you changed everything. Changed the trajectory of so many careers. He was exactly want so many needed. Cherish those times.

Tucker was never on Twitter. He called people (often a dozen times a day). I'd like to call him right now and remind him how important he was to so many of us. But I'm sure he knew. RIP Tuck.
