Soane’s Dressing Room might be the most extravagantly decorated small room in London. Where else can you find sketches and engravings by Hogarth and Canaletto next to a sink and concealed toilet, accompanied by a view out onto gothic ruins and a towering pasticcio? ✨❤️

Today we re-framed Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait. We replaced the late 19th century gothic fantasy frame with a newly acquired somber gilded 15th century moulding. The figures appear larger and the details crisper without the competition of the incongruous carving.

Still thinking about my second encounter with Orpheus and Eurydice (1775-76) MuseoCorrer, two early works by Antonio Canova that truly demonstrate he was an artist of immense feeling and exceptional skill. Heartbreaking, heartstopping… 🤍

‘A hundred years on, they're still relevant.’

This artist project by Curtin // Keating is really remarkable. Sit Stand Smoke is fully booked out but keep an eye on Crawford Art Gallery’s socials in case any cancellations arise!

This day ten years ago I was sketching John Hogan’s late sculpture, Hibernia and Brian Boroimhe (1855). A decade later and I find myself writing about it – the sculpture, not my drawing!

Harry Kernoff's vivid depiction of 'Naylors Cove, Bray,' (1940) shows why he has a firm place in modern Irish popular culture. He had come to international attention the previous year when he represented Ireland at the New York World’s Fair.
