Let me explain:

If you raised a fund in 2021 & 2022, you got outperformed by the SOL/BTC trade.

If you raised a fund in 2023, you’re being outperformed by meme coins, alt L1s, and L2s.

Over the past 18 months, I've watched the art for the Mutant Hounds come from Lip Comarella✨, Jon McTavish, & their artistic team.

It is truly excellent. Regardless of FP, the work they produce is of the highest quality. Love to see the evolution of their collective style.

It's a year that i painted Havoc from the Mutant Hounds for the first time.

Back then i didn't know bout the project and wasn't part of the community, yet.

Crazy how much time passed, how many amazing people i met from the community, opportunities that opened up.

Another grail with blue beams!

Lately I've been finding great Hounds at a great price, Mutant Hounds: Inscriptions has the greatest explosive potential of all Ordinals projects.

I can't wait until I receive my MH Runes and evolve some of my grails!!!

Moral of the story, and my broader point:

Memecoins are for the people, and I don’t think VCs will find a viable way of producing real alpha on shitcoins.

Let’s see where this goes 😉

Don’t get me wrong, many reputable investment firms will bet on memecoins and win big. Open-ended, evergreen, and liquid vehicles will try to sell the top.

Sadly for VCs, memecoins will not work out well for them. It’s not in a VC’s DNA to take profits, or to time the market.

I expect a LOT of VCs will get absolutely rekt investing in memecoins.

They come in with size, pump your bags, and dump on you if they’re lucky. In most cases, they’ll be the ones getting dumped on.

I see a lot of VCs investing in supporting infra: Pump and other tools are a great way to get exposed to memecoins via the venture model.

It’s just getting harder to rationalize investing in shitcoin #9999999 from a VC fund considering you have absolutely no alpha.

There is a LOT of value in memecoins. The whole point of memecoins is that there’s no privileged access to them; the venture model of investing simply doesn’t apply to memes.

In a sense, memecoins are the antithesis of the venture bet, and for good reason.

In other cases, they’re simply chasing the hype. Many of those VCs don’t have a real thesis for the space, and are already invested in other types of meme coins pretending to be something real.
