It's impossible to know with certainty, but protocol advancements could enable miners to rely on transaction fees. Innovations like Ordinals have already boosted fees, increasing miners' earnings.

Of the 21 million bitcoin that will ever exist, just under 20 million are already in circulation. It has been frequently estimated that the last bitcoin will enter into circulation in the year 2140.
