These two and this place are doing a wonderful job of keeping me in the here and now.

We find out Friday if Edge Hill University intends to make us redundant. I’ve just read UCU response and it is powerful, magnificent. I can see the handiwork of my colleagues, where I’ve chipped in (+help I’ve received from here). It’s a paean to collegiality & hope & what our Uni could be

One of the things I resent most about Edge Hill University threatening me with redundancy is the way the stress and worry keep taking me away mentally from my kids. So it was good to be with them today in Ariundel woods where we found butterflies & bees & spiders & violets & a little joy

Thank you to everyone who sent supportive messages or otherwise helped me with today: so many conversations, data analyses, and up comments which all helped. God alone knows what it’ll mean, and god knows how I sobbed afterwards. But I gave a good account of myself and my team.

Christ at this rate managing not to be sick in my mouth would constitute a successful redundancy consultation meeting 🙃

Today at 3pm I have my first 1:1 consultation meeting about being made redundant. I have another tomorrow at 9. The nausea and abdominal discomfort are already pretty intense, even though (or perhaps because) I'm going to go in there fighting. What a way to spend a beautiful day.

And this is why the threat of redundancies is so pernicious. It’s not just our job security that’s circling the drain, it’s the hopes and dreams of our students who have done absolutely nothing to deserve it. What say you, Edge Hill University ?
