With Smith's Bill 20, will now happen every time an Alberta city council makes a controversial decision: ppl ask 'Will the provincial cabinet overturn it?'
Also, people will lobby premier to overturn every council decision they dislike. cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

Mayor Amarjeet Sohi briefly pauses the cc meeting with Edmonton police and the police commission. Some in the full crowd caused a commotion and began yelling during a discussion on protest management. Things were brought under control quickly, thankfully.

Recently, a letter I sent to the Government of Alberta in 2019 in my role as Mayor of Calgary has raised some questions.

It’s entirely fair to ask me questions. My record can (and should!) be challenged; I was in political office for 11 years and I welcome the dialogue. As I am

Rex once asked me a question on Cross-Country Check-Up when my remote phone died. I ran downstairs and picked up the landline. Rex was still asking the question, having taken five minutes to meander and ox-bow to his way to his point. He was unique. RIP

Since 'fixed election' legislation came to Alberta, we've had elections on April 23, May 5, April 16, and May 29, and the next one is scheduled for sometime in October 2027.

Smith used Calgary's single use bylaw to justify the extraordinary powers in Bill 20. Now that Calgary City Council has repealed it, due to normal politics (public outrage leading to a revote), does provincial cabinet still need nullification powers for local bylaws?

On a Council that isn’t unanimous on much, I was pleased to see a united front from all of Council today as we voiced our concerns with Bill 18 and Bill 20 in asking the Mayor to write to the Premier and Minister of Municipal Affairs to express concern about both bills.
