Remarkable wildlife encounter today - this juvenile Sparrowhawk sat on my dad’s clothes dryer for 15 minutes. Filmed with a phone from within arms reach, alert but seemingly unconcerned. Recovering from window strike, ill, bird flu??? Eventually flew off strongly

Sad news from Cambridge Peregrines. If we've lost the resident female peregrine, she must have been at least 10/11 years old and reared at least 19 chicks to fledging (including 4 this year). A force to be reckoned with! Her genes will live on. πŸ’ͺ

Robert Cheseman, chief falconer to Henry VIII, in 1533. Painted with his falcon by Hans Holbein, whose day was today. Such a great portrait.

'And while this may be an annoyance for the humans who paid for the spikes in the first place, Mr Hiemstra sees it as a 'Beautiful revenge. They are using the material that we made to keep them away, to make a nest to make more birds.'

I didn’t hear back from you, Waterbeach… it can’t be too hard to incorporate swift bricks into all your new buildings, can it? πŸ€”theguardian.com/environment/20…

The adult House Martins are busy feeding their chicks on Mayflies and other insects in the King's college porters lodge. Juvenile peregrine also on a chapel spire.
