@juliaisautistic Relief. I can finally accommodate myself and understand myself in ways I never had before. I can finally have hope for the future. Before I was traumatized, overwhelmed and burnt out to a point I didn't think I'd survive. Now I can do things that help all of those things.
@juliaisautistic I do wonder if much of what we are labeled by has to do more with childhood and the speed at which we can acquire skill sets rather than how we end up as finished products. I don’t think I am “high functioning” but i functioned enough at the right times and ways to survive school
EverSong @juliaisautistic I understand your concern (and obviously I don’t have all the information), but I still think it’s good to support no matter what. I’m autistic and pushed myself past my comfort zone. It was hard but I’m glad I did, and I was lucky to have support. Of course, everyone’s different
EverSong @juliaisautistic I would not think of it as inevitably being a mistake. He’s a kid after all. Let’s hope (and fight to make sure) that workplaces are more accommodating by the time he starts a career in whatever he chooses. Also, autistic people often develop skills later in life.
@juliaisautistic ABA also teaches skills like colors, matching, and counting through positive and negative reinforcement under the guise that this is the only way autistic people can learn. It was created by the inventor of gay conversion therapy with the same intent: to “convert” autistics to NT
