Wages should obviously go up, always, all for it. But the issue is the mechanics of a hospitality business don’t work anymore. VAT needs addressing. A price increase to cover wages is fine, but if it means feeding less people then it doesn’t work either!

Working out costings from April-
(From June) Rent increase- £500 extra a month.
Wage increase 10% - £800 extra a month.
Wage increases for 20 yr olds turning 21 from May-June £ 2300 a month.
Food costs - continued inflation at 5% £270 a month.

Total £3870 a month worse off

The budget was hopeless for hospitality, the industry is resigned to struggling on to try and survive with the highest rate of hospitality VAT in Europe. Government has stopped listening to the industry. In Scotland, the industry also gets no rates relief, unlike in England.
