We’re hearing this message more from conservatives like Gov. Doug Burgum, Texas Public Policy Foundation and Joe Lonsdale. There is a new generation of right leaning leaders who know that suburban sprawl is fiscally unsustainable and recognize it is making vast swaths of the US ugly.

If this actually gets finished along these lines it will be remembered similarly to Boston’s big dig: horribly managed, wildly delayed, and massively overbudget but a dramatic improvement in the quality of life for many generations in the cities’ it serves.
