Late in USC Football ✌️ 24-7 win at Notre Dame Football in ‘67, a 🗞️ writer yelled a question to the pressbox at large:

“What’s O.J. stand for?”

“Oh Jesus,” replied legendary ☘️ SID Roger Valdiserri.

“What?”

“As in Oh, Jesus,” explained Roger, “there goes Simpson again.”

One yr Beano Cook worked The Masters for CBS, a crewman got pinched for soliciting a hooker. Legendary producer Frank Chirkinian, aka “The Ayatollah,” gave the cop a press pass - one of the most difficult to get in sports. No charges. 70s Network TV sports was 🤪

No CFP-era team has any aura to speak of; they’re all basically one-offs. It’d have to be the old school Miami Hurricanes. Hated them with the 🔥 of a 1000 suns, but I can recite the two-deep of the ‘90 Canes whereas I don’t remember what I had for lunch today.

Though I've known him throughout my life as a broadcaster, I've always been fascinated by Bill Raftery's oft-forgotten coaching career and why he made the switch

Heading into the title game, I figured it was time to write about it

Beano Cook said “you want people to watch women’s sports? Get Vegas involved. Bettors want to watch what they bet. Betting will get (women’s sports) on TV & get ratings.”

Iowa-LSU was ESPN’s 2nd most watched 🏀 game since 2012. Last night will KILL those numbers. Why? 👇

That is way too kind, but much appreciated. I could refer you to participants in the coaches poll that would have me somewhere behind “Also Receiving Votes.”

Was happy to see the byline of Malcolm Moran (No. 4 in my rankings of famous Fordham University alums behind Denzel Washington & the Vincents, Lombardi & Scully) in the copy of Notre Dame Magazine delivered to my 📪 today.

The highly recommended read👇

Beano Cook and Myron Cope had a memorable conversation near Gus Miller’s newsstand - the story is detailed in “Haven’t They Suffered Enough?”

Ohhh, yeahhh! as the Kool Aid Man would say. In the 80s, the dividing line between kid-dom & manhood was when you were home from school sick & suddenly The Price is Right & The $100,000 Pyramid weren’t as interesting as the soaps. Brooke Logan on the Bold & Beautiful - 😍

It is with profound sadness that we report that Lou Conter, the last survivor of the USS Arizona has passed away at his home in Grass Valley, California. Surrounded by family in his final hours, Lou lived a long and distinguished life. Fair winds and following seas Lou. 🇺🇸⚓️

Fifty years ago, television audiences were first introduced to a Los Angeles-based private investigator named Jim Rockford, and the world was never the same.

The pilot episode of The Rockford Files, 'Backlash of the Hunter' aired on Wednesday, March 27, 1974.

The high water mark of this country was 1970s detective shows. Someone needs to carve the faces of Theo Kojak, Jim Rockford, Frank Columbo & Steve McGarrett in granite out in South Dakota somewhere.

A wonderful blast from Pittsburgh's sporting past about 'Radio Rich' Glowczewski - Bob Prince's man Friday - from Bill Christine, a longtime 🗞️ & 🏇turf writer. Beano was adamant we worked Rich, one of those 'only in Pittsburgh' characters, into his book.
