John Burn-Murdoch As I've noted before, the know-nothing anti-immigration lobby are fond of tweeting charts purporting to show negative economic impacts in continental Europe, while ignoring the actual UK evidence.

Delighted that our book on the lives of EU migrant workers in Great Yarmouth now published. Great support by Bristol Uni Press Economic and Social Research Council UK in a Changing Europe. Very grateful to all our interviewees, especially to GYROS 🧡 and its staff, including the artist for the cover. bristoluniversitypress.co.uk/low-paid-eu-mi…
Astonishing chart from John Burn-Murdoch- on.ft.com/49OMvdz The UK is brilliant at handling immigration, relatively.
Could be a huge strength in the decades ahead
Attn Princeton Economics stand up for your student Hassan Sayed, this is the kind of scholar and human being that we need in the profession.
Aaargh. It's not freedom of movement, The Guardian. The Commission proposal is a four year visa, no onward movement rights to other member-states.
Hey #EconTwitter can we please get mad and radicalised about Princeton Economics PhD student Hassan Sayed being expelled for his support of Palestine and Emory Economics prof Caroline Fohlin being brutalised by state police amongst Gaza Solidarity protesters?
I was sorry to learn of the death of #FrankField . He had been a very supportive member of our Governing Council, 2013 – 2016. In Autumn 2016, we met for a drink at the Curzon Mayfair (!) to discuss the National Institute of Economic and Social Research's work on social policy: I learnt a lot.

A new poll finds that 51% of America now supports mass deportation to address our current policy crisis: axios.com/2024/04/25/tru…
Past mass deportations have directly harmed US workers by eliminating jobs for them, as I write here at Peterson Institute —> piie.com/blogs/realtime…
