At the JCC we are incredibly proud to be featured in a new TV Series, Ireland’s Hidden Treasures. Episode one airs on 21st April at 6:30 PM on RTÉ One, with episode two 6:30 PM on the 28th April and the last episode which features the Jackie Clarke Collection at 6:30 on 5th May.

112 years ago over 100 Irish people lost their lives on the RMS Titanic. The ship hit an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean on its maiden voyage to New York. The iceberg hit around midnight but took another 2 ½ hrs to sink. During this time some passengers were rescued, 54 were Irish.

After visiting the JCC, the students and teachers of Grange PP were taken to the JCC Archive which is housed in our repository. There they were shown how Jackie’s collection is preserved and stored. They were also shown items currently being examined by a researcher for a book.

It was a delight to welcome a group of 2nd year students from Grange Post Primary School to the JCC today. They went around the house to complete their Discovery Trail workbooks answering questions before going on to The Jackie Clarke Collection Archive.

Today we welcomed the students from one of the oldest secondary schools in Ireland, St Nathy’s College. The TY students came to take part in our Discovery Trail Workshop, they were engaging, polite and a credit to their families, their teachers & school.

Today we welcomed a group of visitors from Castlebar Active Retirement group to the collection, They watched the film about Jackie's life then went on to tour the house viewing key items in the collection. They were a pleasure to host and we really hope they enjoyed their visit.

We were delighted to welcome a group of students from St Mary’s Secondary School today to the Jackie Clarke Collection. They came to learn all about An Górta Mór (The Irish Great Famine) and how it impacted our town, our county and the entire country.

Rev Fr. Peter Quinn’s Collection of GAA Football & Assorted Medals 1942 to 1984 & his No7 All Ireland Winning Jersey from 1951. Both items are currently on display at The JCC and we would like to thank the Quinn and Syron families for their generosity in loaning these items to us

110 years ago today marks the formation of the Cumann na mBan. Here at the JCC we have a significant amount of ephemera relating to Cumann na mBan including a very rare 1917 Proclamation which was released by Cumann na mBan to mark the anniversary of the 1916 Rising.

On the 175th anniversary of the Doolough Tragedy we thought it might be fitting to share again ‘When Ireland Starved’. The in-depth & thought provoking documentary on An Górta Mór (The Irish Great Famine) a dark & heart rending period in Ireland’s history

So we kick of this week at the JCC Education Programme with a great group of TY students from St Josephs Castlebar who came to take part in our Discovery Trail Workshop including aspects of the 1798 Rebellion. They had a great time and were a joy to host!

Delighted to welcome the students and their teachers from St Louis, Kiltimagh who came to the Jackie Clarke Collection today and took part in our Discovery Trail Workshop. Such a great group we hope they enjoyed their visit with us!

Another fabulous group of students from 5th class Foxford NS visited us today. They came to learn all about the 1798 Rebellion. They watched a special presentation then completed their 1798 workbooks which contained questions & activities all about this period & its key figures.

We had a very special group of students who came to visit us today from Collège Blaise Pascal from Virames in France. They loved touring the house, were impeccably behaved and a real credit to their school, we hope they enjoyed their time with us and are welcome back anytime.

We were delighted to welcome the students & teachers from Mount Palmer NS. The 3rd to 6th classes joined us for our Famine Workshop. They were so knowledgeable about this dark period in our nation's history. They were a terrific group and a real credit to their teachers & school!
