Stark reminder from @trussellScot of how much further we need to go to #endchildpoverty in Scotland. Holyrood policies, not least the Scottish child payment, are making a real difference but these stats could not be a clearer: more action is needed from Scottish Government as well as GOV.UK

In a just & compassionate Scotland none of us can be content that an increasing number of children have meals provided by food banks. We need bold, targeted & urgent action at all Govt levels so everyone has enough to be able to have the dignity to choose & buy their own food.

Sobering new statistics from The Trussell Trust as if we need reminding that levelling up is a pipe dream.This year more than 3.1 million food parcels were distributed and two thirds were for families with children. A 94% increase.We have to get serious about ending child poverty.

A new low - DWP is arguing our client should not get PIP because he uses a foodbank, which shows he can 'mix/go out'. Forcing people to rely on charity, then using that against them. Our social security system is badly broken.

Record high levels of need for food banks and millions facing hunger and hardship. Whatever the outcome next week, we need the next government to urgently create a plan to tackle this hardship. Over 200 organisations today joined The Trussell Trust & Joseph Rowntree Foundation to make this call.
