This is an awful decision. Our health is based on so much more than the delivery of healthcare. The white paper was the chance to be bold, improve health (which in turns improves wealth) & reduce inequality. Bitterly disappointing to see this thrown away theguardian.com/politics/2022/…

Great piece from John Burn-Murdoch today. ft.com/content/b197e9… Growth in worklessness being driven by multiple health conditions - chronic pain, mental health, and likely long Covid. Strongly agree that part of answer in short-term shd be to expand access to Restart Scheme 1/3

Unpaid care seems to be growing and may be one of the reasons for the drop in labour market participation flagged by the FT. Also a key issue more generally.

'There are... 400,000 more working-age men economically inactive now than pre-pandemic, and... 116,000 women – a stark 77:23 split.' And these are younger as well as older people. Lots of striking stats here. bit.ly/3yJXtAE

Delighted Hewitt Review says ‘more should be done to enable flexibility for health and care staff… in delegation of some healthcare tasks’, e.g, wound care. This could transform homecare and a real shame it hasn't already been pushed further + faster. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Some great opportunities to come and work with me UCLPartners. Work with researchers, clinicians and leaders to innovate for health impact at scale and join a wonderful team. Please do share and don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Very sad news indeed. Had a brief chance to collaborate with Elizabeth and team and @livinwithapp on long Covid via Care City and UCLPartners. Elizabeth was smart, charming and driven. My condolences to family, friends and colleagues.

What's killing London? Last week John Burn-Murdoch shone a light on a worrying trend - the shrinking population of Londoners aged 25-39 But there are actually *more* UK-born young Londoners than ever - it's Brexit that's sapping the capital's lifeblood 🧵 medium.com/@ian.mulheirn/…

Against a long-term trend of rising hospital admissions, policymakers have had an enduring aim of slowing their growth. So it’s remarkable that between 2019 & 2022 admissions fell by 800k (12%). A thread. 1/16

‘Being in good health is now a better predictor of future employment opportunities than education.’ That is a very powerful summary - gives me pause, both as a policy geek and a parent. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Excellent report looking at innovation labs in health from Innovation_Unit and The Health Foundation. Some lines from me - in company with some amazing interviewees - and better looking UCLPartners colleagues adorning the front cover :) Emma Mordaunt

Staying in treatment can be challenging - but the right help can make a difference. Pleased with this short film about cancer support and some of the challenges we are beginning to tackle at UCLPartners with Macmillan Cancer Support and many other partners. youtube.com/watch?v=yWpvhd…

Met some brilliant leaders from biopharma this week, and got excited about our shared to-do list to improve health outcomes. Was an early outing in my expanded Chief Innovation Officer role UCLPartners and everyone was beautifully patient with me :)
