I think it's good practice for gel electrophoresis methods to be reported in volts per cm of gel length. 100v across a 10cm gel (10v/cm) is very different from 100v across a 20cm gel (5v/cm) And many electrophoresis rig makers like to mess around with gel casting tray sizes.
