One of my biggest pet peeves is when people hold neurodiversity aligning theories like the double empathy problem (first written about 12 years ago), to a substantially higher standards than old scool pathologizing ones that are three times older.

I would strongly recommend this research for all mental health teams. Example: Autistic women who are traumatised generally do not have a 'personality disorder'. The contrast in outcomes, from having a correct diagnosis of autism, versus the incorrect 'BPD/EUPD', is stark.

I am finally getting round to reading this in full and everything is spot on with my experiences of getting an EUPD dx at 19, not really getting helpful treatment, then begging for an autism assessment only to be diagnosed at 33 and have my whole worldview change

For clinicians involved in mental health, please read this essential paper. It echoes Dr Hannah Bennett (née Belcher), Au Yeung (2018), Farrelly(2019). And Kentrou et al (2024) who found that one in 3 autistic women had a previous misdiagnosis. We also need to talk about the EUPD diagnosis...
