It sounds complimentary, to me. Justice Merchan had just finished calling all six alternates very attentive, then added that Juror 3 had appeared to fill three notebooks with notes. Then again, jurors are not supposed to show their notes to each other : )

Sorry if I left that unclear: Justice Merchan kept all of the alternates. He just specifically shouted out Alternate Number 3 for taking so many notes.
