Cooper Lutkenhaus is not human. Before this year no Texas high schooler had ever run the 800 meters in under 1:48. Lutkenhaus, who starts his junior year later this month, ran an absurd 1:42.27 at the U.S. outdoor championships today.

Nathan Eovaldi of the Texas Rangers has allowed one run or fewer in 13 of his last 14 starts. Excluding openers, the only other MLB pitcher in the modern era to do that 13 times in a 14-start span is Bob Gibson (1968).

Always love the videos of a walk-on Longhorn getting put on scholarship going into his last season. Marshall Landwehr, by the way, is the 15th UT football letterman to have attended Highland Park High School. The first was Bill Ford, who was an All-SWC end as a senior in 1928.

Texas beat Auburn like a drum in not one, but two of the seasons they're now claiming national championships for: 1910 and 1983.

The Texas Longhorns open the 2025 CFB season on the road vs. defending national champion Ohio State on Saturday. By my count, UT is 8-6-1 when playing teams that finished #1 in the final AP or Coaches Poll from the prior season.

In advance of this week's Texas-Ohio St. matchup I went down the rabbit hole of past years when the Longhorns played a defending national champion. Here's a post I wrote about nine times UT beat a team claiming a natty from the previous season. #HookEm texasandlonghornhistory.substack.com/p/9-times-texa…

.Bob Sturm Corby Davidson On Texas only returning a RG on offense, I think you’re forgetting RB Tre Wisner, who had nearly 1,400 yards from scrimmage in 2024, and senior center Cole Hutson, who’s been a backup the last 2 years but has 13 career starts.

“Lutkenhaus, who is starting his junior year of Northwest High School outside of Dallas” North Texans always love it when national outlets describe a place that’s 20 miles north of Ft. Worth — the 11th-most populous U.S. city — and 40 miles NW of Dallas as “outside of Dallas”.

The Texas Longhorns are now 8-7-1 in all-time matchups against teams that were the previous season’s AP or Coaches Poll national champions following today’s 14-7 loss to defending national champ Ohio State.

Next in my series on forgotten Texas Football lettermen is Donnell Cameron, a reserve on the 1898 team who has been misidentified in program records for well over a century, with his contributions to UT football erroneously credited to another Cameron. texasandlonghornhistory.substack.com/p/forgotten-te…

Longhorns Quan Cosby and Ahmard Hall turned 26 in their senior years at Texas. Neither are among the 15 oldest Texas Football players. As far as I know Nate Boyer tops that list. I wrote about him and 13 other “old men” of UT football in this post: open.substack.com/pub/texasandlo…

Charlie Ward threw 17 INTs as a RS junior in 1992, his first year as Florida State’s QB1. The next year he threw only 4 INTs, improved his completion % by 13.6 points, won the Heisman Trophy and led FSU to a national championship. He offers encouragement to Arch Manning here.
