@MsSalvac @MadameMoodle Judie Haynes I think some of the SLIFE conversations involve students who have literacy skills in their L1, and some do not.Trauma is an enormous factor for our Sts as welll.My 17 year olds learning basic literacy will not be at grade level in two years, and I’m ok with that.

@MsSalvac @MadameMoodle Judie Haynes In the meantime, what is a meaningful balance between the thoughtful assessments we do as ELL teachers and a formal grading system outside our classrooms that exists in reality. Let’s make it work so that our students have grades that reflect what they are in fact learning

We can grade this. And they are contributing to the classroom learning.
AND a few years later these kids passed the Biology EOC here in Texas.

Common issue but support for Ts is available even if Admin doesnt have it as a priority. Twitter, Youtube, book chats. Not all will be interested but even if one Tchr joins you, it is a step.
