#OnThisDay 1949 Twenty-six counties of Ireland officially left the British Commonwealth and became a republic. This occurred just after 12am. Crowds packed on to O'Connell Street bridge to see a 21 gun salute. It was 3 minutes late due to the massive crowds.

Interesting talk taking place today at MIC. An opportunity to recall that Sarsfield Bridge (previously known as Wellesley Bridge and built between 1820 and 1835) was modelled on the old bridge of Neuilly 🇫🇷, built between 1768 and 1772 (see drawings).

Congrats to the 4 finalists of the Shannon Region Junior Chef competition and in particular to the winner, Aley Lyons (C.I.I Abbeyfeale), for an amazing showcase of their culinary skills. So young & already so talented! Delighted to have been part of this year’s event. Limerick & Clare ETB
