Sad news this morning - Jim Gabriel (Jim Gabriel) died of natural causes on 4/29/23. I messaged with him last on 4/23 when he was in good spirits. Good journey old friend. I know you and Bill will have a good old catch up in that big ol' movie house on the other side.
Glad I caught up with ALL NIGHT LONG (81) on Jim Gabriel's rec. Hackman was coming off a two-year break. His agent Sue Mengers was the wife of French director Jean-Claude Tramont, who thought Hackman should be doing comedy. Pauline Kael compared the result to Tati and Lubitsch.
