I remember the time people were pushing hard to use real/legal names in open source to validate the trustworthiness of a contributor. After the xz attack, now it's so much easier to explain how naive this perspective is.

The xz story is telling in so many ways, just from the surface, but it sounds like we are yet to learn big parts of it!
One technical aspect that is very clear already is how bad obscure build scripts are. At least we now have good argumentation!

It's funny that managers claim that LLMs will replace developers, while it's more likely that LLMs will replace managers.

Having a project in an open-source foundation, with big orgs as adopters and a constant stream of contributions does not guarantee the project survival, just short-term success. If you can't find a way to pay full-time maintainers, all will crumble as people get burned out.
