Opening Day. First year of kids pitching and catching, so Leo did both. He’s got that Yankee Stadium swing. This is Grandpa Zog’s idea of click bait!

The great John Sterling interviewing the great Joe Torre pre-game manager's show at Yankee Stadium, 2006. When I gave a print of this photo to John, he cracked, 'Shows off my patrician nose.' Congratulations, John, on a Hall of Fame career. And for always being a mensch!

OJ treated me great when I was a rookie writer in Buffalo in 1972. I was a fan from afar until the tragic and shocking events of 1994. Newsday columnist Steve Jacobson’s lead 30 years ago: “He fooled me, too.”

For those who remember, Rumeal Robinson call in 1989 NCAA title game was worse than this one. Hard to find legit contact in any replay.

Honored to be back in Newsday’s award-winning Baseball Preview section. The Hammer’s story is always worth revisiting. newsday.com/sports/basebal…

Cannot deny the greatness of Mahomes, Reid, Chiefs. Legit dynasty with so many “instant classic” postseason games. That makes what they’ve done even more special.

The Bill Bradley documentary on HBO Max was riveting. Dollar Bill was Honest Bill. What a life he has led, and what a great storyteller. Way more than a sports story.👏👏👏

Highest compliment I can pay Sports Illustrated: It’s the one place I would’ve left Newsday for. Sad day for sports journalism.

From great night in 1994 when I hosted ‘69 Mets 25-year anniversary event at 92nd Street Y. At the end, Buddy grabbed mike and informed crowd I’d been a last-minute replacement for a more famous host. They responded with a rousing ovation. Thanks, Buddy. RIP.

Condolences to family and the many friends of Bud Harrelson, one of the classiest and very best people I ever met in my 50-year career. I had several personal interactions with Buddy that I will always cherish. And today I’ll wear the Ducks jacket he gave me with pride.

Has it ever happened before that the greatest coaches in their sport departed on back-to-back days? First Saban, then Belichick. What careers. What legacies. BB probably not done.

Two truly great CFB semifinals, both coming down to last play. Plenty wrong with college football, including start time of Sugar Bowl, but fans cannot complain about competitiveness of these games. Lots of talent and toughness on display.

My grandson Leo wins the “Beach” Bowl! (A chilling Narragansett, R.I., tradition on New Year’s Day.)

No rooting interest in Lions-Cowboys and I don’t gamble, but feel bad for Detroit if refs got it wrong. Confusing scenario.
1. Was there an illegal formation?
2. Was wrong eligible player announced on PA system?
3. Did Lions’ attempt to deceive confuse refs?

As a Yankees fan who would’ve loved Ohtani/Yamamoto I can’t say it’s bad for baseball that they are on same team for $1 billion. But the dubious deferral on Ohtani deal allowed Dodgers to get YY and that’s not good for baseball IMO. Rules were skirted.

Rare photo of my dad, Artie Herzog, in Marine uniform, WWII, 1942. He was gunner on dive bomber in Pacific theater. A salute on Veterans Day to all who served.🇺🇸

These Bills are undefeated Super Bowl champs! My 7-year-old grandson Leo was named game and SEASON (👏) MVP in 51-34 win over Broncos. Two TD passes, game-clinching pick-6. My son-in-law was head coach; my daughter and granddaughter were #1 fans. Grandpa Zog team photog!
