Since the discovery of CRISPR-Cas systems, people have wondered if a similar type of system exists in eukaryotes. Today, we report in nature the characterization of Fanzor, a eukaryotic RNA-guided system that can be reprogrammed for human genome editing. nature.com/articles/s4158…
ICYMI - our newest Journal Club! Anne West (West Lab @ Duke) recounts the study that showed that accumulation of non-CpG DNA methylation in neurons coincides with postnatal synapse maturation, suggesting that it contributes to brain function. 🔗go.nature.com/45QnEUQ
Thomas Oertner / @[email protected] C-fos is downstream of PKA/CREB and neurotransmitters that stimulate some GPCRs = CREB and c-fos production. Along the way, people (including me at times) say c-fos = “activity”, knowing we study DA/glutamate sensitive neurons. A broader understanding of what makes fos is needed!
I’m very excited to announce the completion of this special issue of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience (co-edited with West Lab @ Duke), focused on Genetics and Epigenetics of Substance Use and Substance Use Disorders! sciencedirect.com/journal/molecu…
High-throughput transcriptomics offers powerful new methods for defining different types of brain cells. But we need to think more explicitly about how we use these data to distinguish a cell’s permanent identity from its transient states. By Anne E. West thetransmitter.org/defining-cell-…
