Check out this great summary from @aj_inglis of our work characterizing MTCH2 as a transmembrane helix insertase in the mitochondrial outer membrane (in human cells), which is now up on biorxiv. Really satisfying project to work on and a great team to be a part of!

If you’re not PhDing with BMB Caltech are you even PhDing? Another great BMB student retreat. Thanks to our inspiring keynote Jose Rodriguez José from UCLA.

With lots of new data from the pre-print! I think we finally have a (partial) answer to how alpha-helical proteins get inserted into the mitochondrial outer membrane in human cells. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Cellular compartmentation requires stringent sorting of thousands of proteins to their correct destination. Our new pre-print bit.ly/3FjWg7v describes a novel source of specificity that controls sorting of aggregation prone membrane proteins to the correct organelle. 1/8

Purifying eukaryotic proteins & their complexes at the scale & purity needed for structural, functional or mass spec characterization can be a pain! Our new protocol preprint bit.ly/3T5D96c describes how anti-GFP & ALFA tag nanobodies can make your life easier (1/6)

Check out our nanobody-based protein purification protocol. We’ve had great results using this for a variety of applications including cryo-EM sample prep, IDing interaction partner via mass-spec, and functional/biochemical experiments. Very clean and high yield!

A long sought after hypothesis has been that organizing biomolecules in and around nuclear bodies is essential for functional RNA processing. We now provide direct evidence of this in nature for nuclear speckles and mRNA splicing. Check out this thread! nature.com/articles/s4158…
