despite waking up late, feeling satisfied with this mornings deeper dive into attention lots of assumptions of what i knew vs what i actually did cool, but its time to sever for the day

was reading up on it today online softmax is such an elegant solution and goes to show how important math understanding is

totally understand that optimizing kernels doesn't necessitate cuda knowledge, but similar to learning c++ before python

id like to know

so far the weekly routine has been > (ideally) daily progress through massivelly parallel programs textbook > anywhere between 1 to 5 days per research paper for deep understanding what works while working full time

noob progress: vector_add seems dumb sharing this bc its so trivial but feels good to actively learn a new domain of concepts beyond standard OOP/Functional programming

also using other peoples submissions to glean info from is beautiful comparing my implementation vs anothers, asking claude to explain what intuitions i should be learning helps a lot just from a simple vecadd kernel

just printed my first research paper inspired by Yacine Mahdid feel like a kid again with assigned reading, odd nostalgia I never thought I’d appreciate like this

if you daily journal (ideally in md) add an alias to your .zshrc `alias today='nvim $(date +%m_%d_%Y).md' feels buttery every morning

my manifestation for joining a frontier lab in the next 12-18 months while working full time as a senior swe at a fortune 500 (jpmorgan) hinders on the following: - every 1 to 5 days - new research paper (deep understanding not surface level reads) (should involve code) -

after a pre-read of the VLLM blog, all I can think about every time I send a message to ChatGPT or Claude is what my priority is

spending focused time learning is so fruitful for default mode network time literally makes you crave moments of rest/doing nothing just to let your brain inference/backprop passively

daydreaming feels like rlhf or rlvr on a more passive level throwing around ideas in your head, deciding on what you will do next, making sense of past learnings
