I am sickened to see protesters dance on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and desecrate the National War Memorial. Generations of Canadians have fought and died for our rights, including free speech, but not this. Those involved should hang their heads in shame.

Freedom of expression, assembly, and association are cornerstones of democracy; but Nazi symbolism, racist imagery, and desecration of war memorials are not. It is an insult to memory and truth.

John Honderich truly believed in Toronto, our city’s promise and its unique place in the world. He was just as passionate about the Toronto Star and how big a part quality journalism had to play in building a Toronto which was strong and prosperous but also inclusive and fair.

We are thrilled at Ontario Government's announcement today that Queen's Health Sciences will receive 20 undergraduate seats and 30 postgraduate positions in medicine. These much-needed seats will address physician shortages and improve access to care for Ontarians.

I also received a tour of Dr. Cathleen Crudden’s Lab where I learned about the revolutionary molecular coatings her team is developing. This technology has the potential to change our daily lives, and is being supported by funding from Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund.

To top it all off, I visited The @aeartcentre’s Tom Thomson exhibit guided by Chief Curator Alicia Boutilier - an incredible cultural gem in the heart of the university. Thank you all for having me and best of luck to students this exam season!
